2D Technical Drawing to 3D Model AI and Openly Accessible Features: SelectAM's 'Identify Spring '25'

We're announcing a big improvement to our software and its accessibility. In our newest version, 'Identify Spring '25', we're making most of our main features free for everyone. At the same time, we're adding new AI tools. We want to support environmentally friendly and sustainable manufacturing, helping our users reduce material use and 3D print the right parts when needed.

More free features with ‘Identify Spring '25’

You can now freely use our "Estimate" and "Redesign" tools to obtain market prices or production costs for various industrial 3D printing processes, materials, and systems. These tools include calculations for how parts can be nested and how they'll be sliced for printing. We've also added calculations for material waste (based on recycling rates) and other general costs. Once you upload your parts, all the calculations are done automatically and you get the results right away. The redesign tool lets you see how changing a part's design could affect costs, to check if it's worth optimising. Plus, you can now set up and change your own 3D printing systems, materials, and settings with the "profile" feature. This lets you quickly adjust any settings as you estimate your parts.

Leap3D – Advanced AI for faster part identification from limited data

Because many people want to analyse 2D technical drawings, we've launched our 'Leap3D' automated conversion service to make this easier. We've created our own AI process to run this. You can upload single or multiple PDF drawings, and the AI will look at sizes, edges, and other information to create a rough 3D model. These models can then be used to see if the parts are suitable for 3D printing, speeding up the process and reducing manual work. This is useful when you have low-quality data or only 2D drawings, which is often the case in manufacturing engineering companies where data is stored in many places. Like our ‘Identify’ platform, we've made sure this is secure and follows data export rules. The conversion happens in a secure, local environment to meet strict data export requirements.

SelectAM Quotations – Accurate 3D printing quotes

Our "Quotations" add-on has been greatly improved with advanced calculations and by using standard packing densities to give quote prices. At the same time, the packing algorithm now allows for tighter packing by reducing the space between parts, based on their shape, so you can fit more into each print. The post-processing settings let you fully customise by choosing from a list of specific post-processing steps to include in your 3D printing quotes.

Free access to provide data-driven insights to a wider audience

We want to give companies data-driven insights so they can achieve efficient, cost-effective, and reliable digital manufacturing. By offering our platform for free, we're making digital manufacturing more accessible. This helps businesses see the value in 3D printing and start using efficient, sustainable processes that cut waste and focus on useful products from design to delivery.

We've seen many companies limit themselves with 3D printing, focusing only on a few technologies and use cases. This means they miss out on big savings and opportunities because they lack information and know-how. We want to share 3D printing knowledge and make information easier to find, so more people can 3D print the right parts for the right reasons.

The value of data-driven part identification

Our method is based on research, customer feedback, technical modelling, and data. We reduce human error and bias, helping our customers improve their processes and supply chains with technical and business insights. Thus, they make parts that are actually useful and save time using 3D printing for the right parts. We usually see a 90% reduction in the time it takes to find suitable uses and a big increase in confidence to use 3D printing, with decisions based on data rather than guesses.

What's the idea behind ‘Leap3D’?

From working with customers, we've learned that data quality and access are major problems for using data to decide which parts to 3D print. Most companies have 2D drawings, but manually checking them for 3D printing potential is slow. This tool removes the need for long data digitalisation and organisation projects, and lets companies start converting 2D drawings to 3D for the parts that make business sense.

About SelectAM

We are a Finnish software startup that helps companies 3D print the right parts with the right technologies. Our team includes academics, computer scientists, and business experts, creating advanced tools and AI for digital manufacturing. We believe that digital manufacturing and digital inventories will help the manufacturing world move towards using materials wisely, with less warehousing, more on-demand production, and local manufacturing. We want to support this change.
